7.PS: : Physical Science
7.PS.1: : Draw, construct models, or use animations to differentiate between atoms, elements, molecules, and compounds.
Element Builder
Use protons, neutrons, and electrons to build elements. As the number of protons, neutrons, and electrons changes, information such as the name and symbol of the element, the Z, N, and A numbers, the electron dot diagram, and the group and period from the periodic table are shown. Each element is classified as a metal, metalloid, or nonmetal, and its state at room temperature is also given.5分钟预览
7.PS.2: : Describe the properties of solids, liquids, and gases. Develop models that predict and describe changes in particle motion, density, temperature, and state of a pure substance when thermal energy is added or removed.
Phases of Water
加热或冷却容器的水和观察phase changes that take place. Use a magnifying glass to observe water molecules as a solid, liquid, or gas. Compare the volumes of the three phases of water.5分钟预览
7.PS.4: : Investigate Newton’s first law of motion (Law of Inertia) and how different forces (gravity, friction, push and pull) affect the velocity of an object.
Force and Fan Carts
Explore the laws of motion using a simple fan cart. Use the buttons to select the speed of the fan and the surface, and press Play to begin. You can drag up to three objects onto the fan cart. The speed of the cart is displayed with a speedometer and recorded in a table and a graph.5分钟预览
7.PS.5: : Investigate Newton’s second law of motion to show the relationship among force, mass and acceleration.
Force and Fan Carts

7.ESS: : Earth and Space Science
7.ESS.1: : Identify and investigate the properties of minerals. Identify and classify a variety of rocks based on physical characteristics from their origin, and explain how they are related using the rock cycle. (i.e. Sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks)
Rock Cycle
Play the role of a piece of rock moving through the rock cycle. Select a starting location and follow many possible paths throughout the cycle. Learn how rocks are formed, weathered, eroded, and reformed as they move from Earth's surface to locations deep within the crust.5分钟预览
7.LS: : Life Science
7.LS.1: : Investigate and observe cells in living organisms and collect evidence showing that living things are made of cells. Compare and provide examples of prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms. Identify the characteristics of living things.
Pond Ecosystem
Measure the temperature and oxygen content of a pond over the course of a day. Then go fishing to see what types of fish live in the pond. Many different ponds can be investigated to determine the influence of time, temperature, and farms on oxygen levels.5分钟预览
7.LS.4: : Research and describe the functions and relationships between various cell types, tissues, and organs in the immune system, circulatory system and digestive system of the human body.
Circulatory System
Trace the path of blood through a beating heart and the network of blood vessels that supplies blood to the body. Take blood samples from different blood vessels to observe blood cells and measure the levels of oxygen, carbon dioxide, sugar, and urea.5分钟预览
7.LS.5: : Compare and contrast the form and function of the organelles found in plant and animal cells.
Cell Structure
Select a sample cell from an animal, plant, or bacterium and view the cell under a microscope. Select each organelle on the image to learn more about its structure and function. Closeup views and animations of certain organelles is provided.5分钟预览
RNA and Protein Synthesis
Go through the process of synthesizing proteins through RNA transcription and translation. Learn about the many steps involved in protein synthesis including: unzipping of DNA, formation of mRNA, attaching of mRNA to the ribosome, and linking of amino acids to form a protein.5分钟预览
6-8.E: : Engineering
6-8.E.3: : Analyze data from investigations to determine similarities and differences among several design solutions to identify the best characteristics of each that can be combined into a new solution to better meet the criteria for success.
Trebuchet
Design your own trebuchet to fling a projectile at a castle wall. All of the dimensions of the trebuchet can be adjusted, as well as the masses of the counterweight and payload. Select a target on the Launch tab, or just see how far your projectile will go.5分钟预览
6-8.E.4: : Develop a prototype to generate data for repeated investigations and modify a proposed object, tool, or process such that an optimal design can be achieved.

About STEM Cases
Students assume the role of a scientist trying to solve a real world problem. They use scientific practices to collect and analyze data, and form and test a hypothesis as they solve the problems.
Each STEM Case uses realtime reporting to show live student results.
Introduction to the Heatmap
STEM Cases take between 30-90 minutes for students to complete, depending on the case.
Student progress is automatically saved so that STEM Cases can be completed over multiple sessions.
Multiple grade-appropriate versions, or levels, exist for each STEM Case.
Each STEM Case level has an associated Handbook. These are interactive guides that focus on the science concepts underlying the case.
